Nikk Mager hopes he has the X Factor

Nikk: A Mager knockback

17 Aug 08

Viewers saw Simon Cowell deliver some of the harshest comments of the series so far to 24 year-old Yorkshireman Nikk Mager.

A former Popstars: The Rivals competitor and ex member of boyband Phixx, Nikk has been chasing his pop dreams for eight years. Despite currently earning a living in northern working men's clubs, Simon and Co. made it clear to Nikk that they felt he should accept that he will never fulfil his showbusiness dream.

We caught up with Nikk after the audition, when he was still reeling from an X Factor experience where Simon slated his audition and former friend Cheryl Cole walked out of the room.

He told us, "I'm smiling but it didn't go very well to be honest".

"They obviously didn't get me, which is cool. I respect their opinions. But I'm not going to give up. I want this too much.

"There is something else out there for me - there is something just around the corner.

"Everyone dreads the kind of comments Simon Cowell gives - and he told me it was my opportunity to give up.

"But Simon has said numerous things about numerous people. He said Mika would never have a chance in hell of making it, and he was the biggest selling artist in 2007.

"Gary Barlow, he said was never going to amount to anything. Look how big Take That are right now. If I put my name on that list then, yeah, it's positive. That's cool.  I'll take my chances. After all, Madonna was Rejection Queen.

"You don't get anywhere if you're going to give up, do you? So yes, I'm gutted, but there is lot to look forward to. I've got a bright future ahead".

True enough albie, but when you know there is a person in this competition who should never have been allowed to even audition, it must stick in his craw.

Hey people this IS a COMPETITION, there have been many and there will be more in the future who take a beating from the Judges but i doubt anyone will be up in arms about it. Yes Nikk tried, Yes Nikk gave it his best shot, NO he didn't get past the judges because he wasn't good enough in THEIR eyes. If Nikk hadn't NEARLY made it before and if Nikk Hadn't been associated with Cheryl in the past no one would care. Nikk knows as a performer that he wasn't good enough. Move on to those who deserve t

To Cheryl. I never thought that I would ever write to a television show to complain or express my view on anything but after watching The X Factor on Saturday was left deeply in tears. I have been through a similar situation where for 8 years since my accident I have been trying to get back into work and each time I just get slated down. And I am sorry I refuse to be a cleaner. I don’t want to be like Nikk Mager but he too has a dream and it is what he believes in and could see how he too get

Thats a bit harsh, albie, I think he was better than Leon who (somehow) won the X Factor last year.

No disrespect to you nikk but having been on the club circuit for 38 years i'm afraid Simon has it right, and all the other judges too. The performance was nothing special and given that there are only limited places on X factor it was right that you didn't go through.

dont give up nikk! you have a great voice, simon didnt no wat he was saying and you should carry on singing!!! xx

Don't give up, I quite liked your audition, I think you should have been given a chance to show what you can do. Ignore Simon's cruel comments and shame on Louis and Danii for not seeing that.

You must NOT give up just because of negative comments. I'm a writer, and was told once by an editor that my work was rubbish and I would never make it. I kept going - and have been published several times. Keep going! But try other things too. Don't be discouraged. Those judges have hurt too many people.
