Rachel nearly blows it

There are few people in the competition with as much raw talent as Rachel Hylton, and even fewer as opinionated as her.
When she began to cross words with Simon after her bootcamp performance she was in danger of letting her defensive attitude scupper her big opportunity.
Rachel chose to sing Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol but found herself struggling in parts to follow the musical arrangement she had set.
Even though she stopped the song early, the performance itself seemed to go well, provoking a strong crowd reaction of approval from her fellow bootcampers.
Cheryl admitted how she’d often thought of Rachel since her last audition and how she had looked forward to seeing her again:
“You were one of the people I went home and spoke to my family about. You’ve got a raw talent,” the Girls Aloud star told her.
Dannii followed suit with another positive comment stating Rachel had “won a lot of friends after that performance.”
“You are potentially one of the best singers I’ve heard in this country for maybe ten years,” Simon began: “But, that performance will not work on this show. What you started to do was ruin the song.”
“Can I defend myself here?” Rachel interrupted: “It’s so easy for you to sit there, for everyone who stands up here I have to defend our position, I have practised and practiced and I know I know this song.”
Simon doesn’t think much of what he is hearing and reminds Rachel, twice, not to ruin it for herself.
“One of us has to work with you; you have to listen as we are trying to help you.”
Her outburst didn’t cost her the chance to perform at the second day of bootcamp, but it did act as a reminder to Rachel to how close she came to losing everything.
“To know you want something so much and nearly lose it. I’ll never be so arrogant again, so stupid.”
Watch tomorrow’s bootcamp episode to find out how Rachel gets on in the second stage.
