Bad Lashes' destiny
01 Oct 08
The fact that the ringing in our ears had stopped and the last shards of glass were being swept into the dustpan spelt only one thing: Bad Lashes had stopped screaming.
Rarely in the history of mankind has the euphoria of four people made such a cacophonous racket.
Crew members within a half mile radius flung off their headphones as if they were made of molten lava; such was the vigour of the Geordie girls’ excited screams.
“I can’t believe it! I can’t believe it!” Sam screeched: “We’re going to the judges’ houses, I’m in shock! It hasn’t sunk in!”
Although the bootcamp process was a long and arduous affair, Bad Lashes leave the O2 Centre one of the fabled 25 acts, bound for a judge’s house.
An emotional rollercoaster, the experience has helped them grow as a group and provided them with some vital tips to take into the competition’s later stages.
“We’ve picked up a lot of good advice,” explains Stacey-Lacey – group member and official Bad Lashes make-up girl: “Simon said that the group needed more of a focal-point and suggested one of us be the lead singer.”
The girls elected 19-year old Emily for the role, only for Simon to say: “Wrong choice! Guess again!” pointing to Sophie, the group’s eldest member.
“Sophie’s just shone at bootcamp,” her bandmates chorused: “We’re so proud of her she’s done a great job!”
The girls fought off tough competition to land a place at the judges’ houses, and now face an even bigger task: To convince Louis Walsh, who’s mentoring the groups, that they aren’t just “four hairdressers” as he once labelled them, but serious contenders who could win the next X Factor crown.
Bad Lashes remain confident that nothing will stop them achieving their dreams. A tearful Emily summed up their feelings:
“After everything that’s happened I know we can do it, it’s our destiny.”
