'Witch hunt' upset departing Rachel

23 Nov 08

"People are hating me because of the life I used to live".

In tears at some points in the interview, Rachel Hylton says she felt the odds were always stacked against her in The X Factor competition.

And she has spoken out about "A blatant witch hunt to get me off that show. I'm not happy".

Rachel has made no secret about her troubled past, which included problems with drugs and spells in prison.

But the 26 year-old mum-of-five reckons that her attempts to turn her life around have been thwarted by what she reckons amounts to a newspaper hate campaign.

"Every week there was a story in the paper. Every Saturday, there was something bad about either Dannii or me. They were trying to turn people against me".

"I've kept quiet about this for so long, but I'm really, really upset. I am opening my mouth now because I haven't done anything wrong".

In the past few weeks, newspapers have carried stories about a pending trial involving Rachel's brother, former victims of her crimes, and negative stories sold by people she knew. She's also been accused of making gang gestures on the show.

She told us, "I am not happy about the life I used to live. I am not proud of it. But that's not who I am anymore".
.
"I told everyone my history right away on my show. I didn't have to say it. I could've waited for you to find out - but I wanted people to be able to trust me. I'm not here to lie. I came here to do the thing I love, I just came to sing."

"By week four or five the press started hounding me, printing this, printing that".

Rachel felt she was in a no-win situation. She said of the press, "What did you want me to do? Continue the path to destruction and lose my other two children"?

"Is that what people wanted for me? It seems I can't do right for doing wrong".

"I know I've made mistakes but I hoped people would allow me to pick myself up and make the most of this chance".

"Don't I have the right, just like anybody else walking this planet, to try to better myself"?

And very upset, she explained quietly, "I know I've made mistakes and I know those mistakes have been very detrimental, especially to my first three children [who are in care]".

"I hold my hands up to all of that. I know having five children at 26 isn't good".

"But anyone who thinks I don't care about them or think about them is absolutely wrong".

"I'd say to the people who write those things, 'You've hurt me, you've hurt my family. You've hurt my kids. Now people out there think I don't think about my kids who are not with me. That is absolutely not true".

And she said, "My biggest hurt from it all is knowing that my eldest son Tristan was watching the TV, and reading all that stuff in the papers about me".

"I am deeply saddened by that".

Rachel is a woman who has had a difficult start to life and is the first person to put her hand up and admit she had made mistakes that she ain't proud of. I believe her life story is one that needs to be told because I am sure there are many who could learn from it. SHE MADE THE DECISION TO TURN HER LIFE AROUND ! She had the biggest obstacle to overcome. No matter what Rachel keep believing in yourself. Your destined for great success. GOD BLESS YOU !

some of the public think that loud chanters are all that. Rachel can be a star with the right management. Ordinary singers like ruth cannot.

The thing is her voice is very specific and she can only do Amy Winehouse style songs so it was always going to be hard compared to more verstile contestants. I mean could you imagine her doing Britney week? Would have been awful tbh...

Basically, the press want celebrities to do anything just so they can get a story out of it. They do not care what you do or what happens to your life, just as long as they get a story about it. Rachel deserves a chance to make a better life for herself as does everyone really.

i agree wiv justiceuk. i dont kno why people are dropping guilt bombs on rachel, she regrets what she has done and she has moved on. and rachel was the only one with a voice in the x factor that i loved from the first time i heard it and remembered it (i have a short attention span) thats how much i liked rachel. i also think that the media is turning people against her bcause i am the only 1 i kno who likes rachel and people only dont like her because of her past. that is really unfair and sad.

Many people comment on her attitude, but if you saw the media- hunt on her, its no surprise. Rachel already lived that drama once, and that will last a lifetime, not enough for the haters tho, who couldnt leave it alone and the media, who sold many papers on her story. She went thru that conpetition with lead boots on. How people can be cruel. She was a child of 13, in a spiral. At least she got up and fought back. Instead of berating her, yall could've seen an opportunity to raise her up.

i think it was rachels attitude that got her voted out of the competition.her vocals were partly to blame too though, she wasnt half as good on the show as she was in her audition.but then its partly because of the song choices.i dont think she was ever given the right song.but have any of them.personally i think this years theme nights have been quite appalling actually !!! and as for her past well....thats her business and shes trying to correct it.what about other celebs theyve all had a past!
