Howard: Never Forget my advice!

24 Nov 08

Take That warn contestants: "Don't let it go to your heads"!

With string of hits spanning fifteen years and more, The X Factor's star guests know a thing or two about maintaining a successful music career.

Take That were perfectly placed, then, to offer a few words of advice to the contestants behind the scenes.

Howard Donald had a few words to say about dealing with fame and fans in the future. He said, "Don't let it go to your heads. People don't like it".

"Especially in the UK, they don't like people who are flash!"

Specifically, the singer also had nuggets of wisdom for JLS on how to make things work as a band.

He told them, "You must always keep the friendship. That's the bond with us, and that's what's kept us together".

"And you've got to work your butts off".

"Be as creative as you can, always bettering yourself. But never think, 'Oh we're number one in the charts. We can relax'. You can't".

"Remember, you are only as good as your last record".

completely agree with the comments, although from what i have seen of JLS they seem to interact very well with one another - for me there is a danger that anton (?) who does most of the lead vocals gets more praise than the rest, but they look like they are having fun and they are great entertainers - hope they win!

All the contestants on X factor would do well to follow Howard's advice, Take That have a very level attitude towards success and fame.

I agree with you, Nursejones. It's not imperative that you write your own material, but as you say, if you do put your career at the whim of a songwriter, you'd better have the best. If you can write your own stuff, however, you get the extra satisfaction, you own the copyright and you earn royalties whenever other artistes record and perform your material. Also, if you write good stuff, you soon gain kudos not just as a singer, but other singers may comission you to write stuff for them.

girls aloud dont write their own songs. Will Young does......you dont need to write your own. But you do need a good song writer on your side.

An artiste who is able to write their own material is also far more marketable than one who merely does covers of other people's stuff and a willingness to be flexible and move with musical trends is also important for a lengthy career in the business. An excellent example of this attribute is Madonna.
