Alex is Top Of The Pops!

14 Dec 08

Alexandra's ambition to be on TOTP comes true!

Alexandra Burke spent the day after her X Factor victory pre-recording Hallelujah for the Christmas edition of Top Of The Pops.

Her appearing on the legendary pop show fulfils a long-held ambition for the young singer.

She told us, "When I was eight or nine, I watched my mum appear on Top Of The Pops. And I decided, one day, I want to do the same".

"I was devastated when they cancelled the series. Absolutely gutted. Appearing on there was always one of the ways to tell whether you have actually made it, I think".

Alex is such a big fan of the pop show that she's been sporting her rhinestone-studded Top Of The Pops T-shirt in The X Factor house for weeks.

But as soon as she was announced as 2008's X Factor winner, Alex's engagement diary filled up lickety-split, and as well as a New Year's Eve appearance with Sir Elton John at London's O2, Alex received news she thought she'd never hear.

She told us, "When they told me I was going to do Christmas Top Of The Pops I couldn't believe it. It's amazing. A dream come true. Another dream come true for me. I can tick off that list".

And Alex will be in very good company on the Christmas Day afternoon show.

She said, "Oh yeah! Guess what? Girls Aloud are on it too"!

JLS's downfall is that they don't have a lead singer!!! Alex is in a different league vocally and she deserved to win!!! Imagine if they had got Boys II Men to sing with JLS, it would have been a travesty as their average vocals would have shone them up big time!!! They got shone up by Westlife!!! I'm not a hater and I do wish them the best (they come across as 4 really nice guys) however they need to work on their vocals.

I am not surprised that Eogham won six shows. I am convinced that he won them because of two major factors, which have nothing to do with singing: 1. His puppy like endearing look; 2. Geographical: the extra votes from Ireland, like Lion Jackson last year from Scotland. Plus the Judges never issuing any negative comment (but, incidentally, never speaking about is vocal, which is strange in a singing competition)

JLS is, in my view an average group: one average singer and the other guys working as ornamental elements. In a group you take in turn singing, but they lack the skills to do that. In short, JLS is one average singer disguised as a group.

Because of the analysis written in my previous comment, in my view, this sort of competition is always for me a big disappointment. PS: Alexandra is a great vocal, but there are so many versions of Hallelujah available, and this is not one of my favourite.

More to my last comment below. There was a time, long ago, when in major competitions such as the Eurofestival, the juries around Europe, (selected from the population representative groups), were forbidden to watch the show on TV: they were compelled to only listened the songs on the radio, to prevent them from being affected by the choreography, the singer’s look, etc. In fact, music and singing is to be then listened and not watch.

The four big vocals Rachel, Laura, Ruth and Alexandra deserved to be in the semi-final , and one of them deserved win, because this is a singing competition, not a beauty context. Unfortunately, only part of the public seems to mainly value singing, and their votes were split between the four singers, this is why only one of them reached the later stage, Alexandra, who is, incidentally, the prettiest of them, which also prove my point.

I am so pleased Alex won the X Factor - for once the true talent won fair & square! She deserved to win cos all her performances have been outstanding. JLS did do well too though and I am glad they were the runners up. Cant wait to buy her single!!

nedisfred get over yourself! You wouldn't recognise true talent if it stood in front of you... The girl won fair and square because of her talent - the duet with Beyonce was a bonus!! I for one wish her on the best in the world and cannot wait to hear her sing again.
