The second half of rock week was kicked off by the competition’s very own rock-god, Mr Jamie Archer, who attempted to blow his competitors out the water with a head-banging rendition of Primal Scream’s Rocks.
Everyone seemed to love the performance except Louis who said: “Jamie, there is nothing original about you; you are not a real rocker!”
Cheryl and Simon both disagreed with the Irishman, the former claiming: “That was the most comfortable performance you’ve given,” the latter stating: “Of all of the performances tonight yours was the most authentic… you were terrific!”
Last week’s Big Band show was the first time Rachel Adedeji had stayed out of the bottom two, and she did her chances of repeating that feat the world of good by delivering a classy version of the U2 smash One.
“The most emotional performance of the entire night,” squealed Louis!
Cheryl added: “Your voice, out of the girls, is my favourite.”
Simon liked the final third of the song but criticised her look. This led Dannii to poke fun at Simon’s flat-top before telling Rachel: “That was an amazing performance! You allowed yourself to be vulnerable.”
Casting aside their troublesome chest infections, the competition’s zaniest characters delivered yet another high octane performance, that will have had half the country cheering and half the country groaning. Singing 5ive’s version of the Queen classic We Will Rock You, John and Edward continue to polarise opinions.
“I do look forward to seeing you every week, but I wouldn’t want to listen to you on the radio,” Dannii told the twins.
Cheryl seemed more optimistic: “I felt like I was rocking for that song,” she said.
Simon continued his crusade to bad-mouth the boys at any given occasion, but credited them for their tenacity, he was less kind about the performance though: “you simply can not defend that singing,” he told Louis.
Louis as ever was a rock of support for his fellow countrymen, stating John and Edward were: “energetic, entertaining, and exciting.”
Rock week ended on a high thanks to the ever-reliable Olly Murs, who swaggered his way through a rocked-up version of the Beatles classic, Come Together.
“I absolutely adore you!” yelled Dannii.
“You are the one artist that gets better every week,” exclaimed Louis. Cheryl agreed and told the Essex boy: “You really impressed me!”
But the best praise was saved for last with Simon beaming: “Olly, I am very, very proud of you.”
The phone lines are now open and only you can decide who ends up in the bottom two on tomorrow night’s results show. Who rocked-it like a god, and who flopped-it like a slob?
