Of course, it's standard practice, even with the best stars. To be fair, it's also very difficult to hear in a big arena without proper foldback speakers -you notice they only have little earbuds on the Xfactor. Also when it's so loud live the audience often don't notice, but on TV...!
But then Rebecca was in tune.

i also LOVED REBECCA FERGUSON - gosh! she's so amazing with her voice! tho comes 2nd after MATT these two are THE BEST FOR ME! AND I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICES! YES!

I was fairly impartial last night. The song is one of those horrible  'Xfactor songs' we expect  to be the winning single - that hideous change of key in the middle doesn't help!. I agree Rebecca's wasn't much better. However, he didn't sing it well. Rebecca was far better. People don't like me saying it, but it was very out of tune at the beginning and and very sharp a lot of the time. Matt always sings sharp at the top, but I guess when he records in the studio they will correct that!

With all due respect to Matt who has given some good performances, this was atrocious. At the beginning he is no where near the right pitch for several bars. His overall performances last night were really poor, and on the strength of them Rebecca should have won. It seems to me that the public either can't hear when a performance is bad, or really don't care.
