There must have been high-fives all round when Olly Murs landed his first TV presenting gig on The Xtra Factor!
With a ‘cheeky chappy’ persona to rival Robbie Williams and vocals similar to original Pop Idol Will Young, former call-centre worker Olly Murs was one of the success stories of the 2009 series of The X Factor, voted runner-up to Joe McElderry in the final showdown.
No stranger to television, the delectable Mr Murs first hit our screens – albeit briefly – back in 2007 on the TV show Deal or No Deal, where he won a measly £10. Less than two years later, it was his show-stopping X Factor audition of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ that enabled him to showcase his talents, where judge Simon Cowell said it was “the easiest ‘yes’ I’ve ever given.” It was only just the beginning. In 2010, Olly signed a six-figure record deal, and his debut album, 'Olly Murs' went double platinum. Scoring a hat trick, Mur-vellous Olly also went to sell out not one but TWO tours, the first as a solo artist and the second with former X Factor hunks, JLS. Mega successful or what?!
The Essex boy will undoubtedly have girls swooning over him as he presides over the chaos and craziness that is Xtra Factor. We’re ridiculously excited to see him on screen and know he’ll be bloomin’ brilliant, as witnessed at the auditions when he took time out to give our besotted superfans a masterclass in TV presenting! We’re also secretly hoping he’ll incorporate some dance moves into his presenting – displaying the trademark ‘Olly Wiggle’ that had us all so hot under the collar the first time round. Fingers X’d, eh?
