Our chap in the cap hasn’t stopped since winning last year’s X Factor. Luckily for us, we managed to pin Matt down to talk about his successful recording career, support for underdogs Kitty 'n' Frankie and his crush on Kelly Rowland. Enjoy!
How do you like to unwind?
I like to chill out with close mates, plenty of beer and some good old rock ‘n’ roll. Much like the party scene in the video for my new song Starlight.
What’s on your rider?
It’s pretty basic; Peroni and Haribos. I’m not a diva!
Do you still regret wearing yellow trousers on stage last year?
They were awful. I’ve just about gotten over it now. I’ve made my peace with them.
You and One Direction still best buddies?
We’re all still mates. Though, I’m no longer their wingman when it comes to the ladies. They certainly don’t need my dating advice these days. They’re doing rather well for themselves on that front.
Will you miss Johnny?
Absolutely! I met him backstage and thought he was really friendly. A really nice bloke, people love him. I see him getting a lot of work out of this.
Why do you think The Risk were voted off?
I have no idea why, perhaps the public thought those guys were safe. I feel as surprised as I did when Aiden Grimshaw got voted off last year.
Who do you reckon will win?
It’s impossible to say – they're all so talented. Maybe Marcus. Though, I must say Kitty’s survival song last night was THE performance of the series so far, the absolute best! She has star quality and sings with such honesty. She’s just incredible.
What do you think about Frankie?
I feel sorry for the fella. Nobody should be slated online like he’s been. All those horrible comments people leave are unfair. Though, he’s not doing himself any favours by going out all the time. He needs to look like he cares.
Do you fancy any of the female Finalists?
They’re too young, but I do have a crush on Kelly Rowland. She has an amazing body and a strong personality.
What do you look for in a girlfriend?
I love a girl who can make me laugh and I’m a sucker for pretty eyes.
Where would you take her?
It depends. Ideally, we’d find a nice little boozer and sit in front of a log fire. Afterwards, we’d go for a Big Mac, I’m not joking!
What can we expect from your tour?
We’ll be rocking out all the songs on the album, do some covers and there’ll be an acoustic section too.
Matt's single Starlight and debut album Letters are both out now and tour dates for next year can be viewed on www.mattcardlemusic.com
