Gary Barlow: ‘The talent has been off the scale this year!’
On his role as Judge, Gary told us jokingly: ‘Louis may have been here the longest but I’m still head Judge! The talent has been off the scale this year. At this stage, I couldn’t possibly pick a category I’d like to mentor. There’s going to be some tough choices ahead.’
An early starter, it all began on Gary's tenth birthday when his parents bought him a keyboard instead of a BMX.
A few years later, he'd progressed to performing at local clubs and penning ditties. Then, at 18, he met with manager Nigel Martin-Smith to discuss an 'idea for a band.' The rest, as they say, is history.
It’s difficult to talk about Take That’s lead vocalist and resident heartthrob without making mention of his record-breaking achievements.
To date, with Take That, he has sold over 45 million records worldwide, netting eleven #1 singles and seven #1 albums in the process. The success doesn't stop there - as a solo artist, he has clocked two #1 singles and a #1 album. He’s also been voted as the best British songwriter of all time. Yup, of ALL time.
As the most decorated man in pop, Gary Barlow has won countless awards including six Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting. Blimey, that trophy cabinet must be bursting at the seams with all that silverware.
Unbelievably, EVEN a seasoned pro like Gary suffers from occasional stage-fright. He revealed: ‘I always take deep breaths before going on stage. An ego charge is good too – say to yourself "I'm the man, I'm the man" over and over until it sinks in.’ Advice our contestants would be wise to follow.
