Bad Lashes exit interview
12 Oct 08
"What friends are for' was a bit ironic...
You have to feel sorry for Bad Lashes. The lovely lasses arrived all excited and ambitious, but were voted off The X Factor in live show one. Here's what the band's Stacey had to say about going home...
Hey Stacey! How do you feel this morning?
We're absolutely devastated but we're trying to be positive. Out philosophy is that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty; we're trying to see things like that. We're going to use it as a platform to set ourselves up.
What did you do after last night's show ended?
We had a glass of wine to calm ourselves down! Then we went into the house, sat down with the other contestants, and watched the show back. We felt really proud of ourselves.
How did you feel when Dermot read out your name?
It was like all the life was sucked out of you. It was like an out-of-body experience.
What was it like to sing your survival song?
It was bitter-sweet. We really enjoy performing Wonderwall, but because we were singing to save ourselves, it was really emotional and just awful, really. The words were really heartfelt. When I sang "Maybe you'll be the one to save me..." I looked at Simon.
The judges' vote ended in deadlock. How did that feel?
I thought they didn't make a decision because it probably made good telly. Louis told us afterwards that he didn't want to choose. He didn't want to take the responsibility for sending his own act home. We would have preferred him to make a real decision, even if it didn't go our way.
Is there anything about the whole experience you'd have done differently?
We would have tried to be less nervous. We were absolutely terrified before we went on stage. We're inexperienced; we hadn't even done gigs together before, and suddenly we're on live telly.
There were tears and traumas before you even went on stage...
I think I was most nervous, because all I've done before was sing karaoke. Sam was upset because she was supposed to wear a dress with a union jack on the front and they made her change it; it was 'too Spice Girls'. She only got to look at herself in the mirror for like, one second!
What won't you miss about The X Factor?
The pressure was intense! Being out is a pressure release... but then you're gutted at the same time. We're gutted to be out the first week.
What did you love most about your X Factor journey?
Living in the house with all the other contestants. And we loved doing interviews as a band, having a laugh. We truly loved having the opportunities we had, no matter how tired we were. We made the most of the experience.
What do you think of Girlband?
Not to name names but there is friction within the other girl band which we all know about. We thought the 'what friends are for' song was a bit ironic. We heard a lot - we lived in the next room!
What will happen to Bad Lashes now?
The X Factor have got gigs lined up, and we're going to move to London. We'll be doing the Help For Heroes single, and we're going to try to record Wonderwall as well. People have said such great things about that song.
So you've packed in the day jobs?
Yes. No more of that for a long time we hope! We are grabbing this opportunity.
Who would you like to win The X Factor now?
We want JLS to win. They are genuine friends and they really want to do well. Lovely guys.
